Warm Hearts

Sixty lives.

That is the total number of women LoveOverload Inc. was able to gift winter coats to at the Helen Wright Center for Women.

In typical North Carolina fashion – winter was slow to arrive this year. The temperature tiptoed around the 60’s until mid-November. Overnight temps crept to the 40s, switching our short-sleeved wardrobe and open-toed shoes to bundling up. For many individuals in our community, the change in weather didn’t mean opening the closet, pulling out a jacket, and carrying on.

We want to share our deep gratitude to LoveOverload Inc. Their initiative provided coats and goodie bags packed with essential cold-weather gear like scarves, gloves, and hats. Because of their efforts, no one at the HWCW would have to go without the comfort of warmth. In addition to the coat drive, LoveOverload Inc. showed us that the best cooks add a sprinkle of kindness. The group also served up a delicious home-cooked holiday feast.

Love Overloads’ efforts live into our mission of Compassion, Dignity, and Care.  At the HWCW, many of these women are leaving the shelter to go to work, needing a coat in these cold temps, and appreciate returning to a hot meal.  Knowing the community cares encourages them to keep moving forward – to continue working with their case manager to achieve sustainability and housing.  The ladies need your support and encouragement.

If you’re inspired to get more involved, there are several ways you can support guests in the Helen Wright Center for Women:

  • Donate Goods. The Center is accepting donations this holiday season. Some items urgently needed are pillows, new or gently used and washed twin blankets/comforters, and individually wrapped snack products.
  • Serve. We welcome you to sign up for the 2024 Meal Train.
  • Make a Contribution. Monetary donations support our program and services.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a meal provider, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@urbanmin.org.

Thank you so much for your support of our programs!
