about the helen wright center

An emergency shelter for single, adult women experiencing homelessness without children in their custody.

The HWCW is a low-barrier emergency shelter that offers safe shelter and provides for the basic needs of single women experiencing homelessness.  More importantly, we are a safe and supportive environment offering a structured opportunity to regain self-sufficiency and independence.

Sometimes people need support on their path to independent living, meaning we think creatively about how to move someone from homelessness to housing. The path might look different, but something that remains true is that housing is always the solution to homelessness.

we provide more than just housing assistance

With a focus on the establishment of well-defined goals and objectives, women are offered an opportunity to break the cycle of homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency through intensive case management services and on-site services.

We offer, at no cost to participants, workforce development classes in living wage careers such as Pharmacy Tech, Medical Billing and Coding, Project Management Professional (PMP), and Human Resources (SHRM). Offering the opportunity to increase education and earning potential ensures that women will not return to homelessness.

Rapid rehousing is a housing intervention that emphasizes housing search, relocation services, and short-term rental assistance to move people as rapidly as possible into permanent housing. We are able to offer financial assistance with security deposits, utility deposits and rent through our rapid exit program.

We believe all paths to home start with a healthy individual. At the HWCW we offer on-site access to mental and physical health providers able to provide the assistance needed to remove barriers to obtaining permanent housing. Service provision includes individual and group sessions as well as educational lecture series.
