June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and their ongoing fight for equality. At the Helen Wright Center for Women, we’re proud to stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors and offer a safe and supportive space for all.
While we haven’t had formal staff training programs on LGBTQ+ inclusivity yet, our amazing staff is already well-versed in the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community. They go above and beyond to create a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and we’re open to exploring future training opportunities to enhance our support for LGBTQ+ individuals seeking shelter and services.
One of our core values is inclusivity, and that means everyone is welcome at the Helen Wright Center. We have a clear non-discrimination policy that emphasizes this, and it’s something every woman who enters our shelter signs.
We also encourage the use of respectful language and terminology. This means using a person’s preferred name and pronouns – it’s a simple way to show respect and create a safe space.
Here for You, No Matter Who You Are
If you’re part of this community and need help, we can connect you with fantastic resources like the LGBT Center of Raleigh and Planned Parenthood.
We also have a fantastic case manager who used to work at the LGBTQ Pride Center at NC State. They’re a valuable resource for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community who might feel more comfortable working with someone who has experience supporting LGBTQ+ individuals.
A Message of Pride and Support
To our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors, we want to be clear: The Helen Wright Center is committed to inclusivity. We want everyone to feel safe, respected, and supported, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our shelter is a welcoming space for all single women over 18 seeking our services. We actively work to create a culture of acceptance and understanding, where diversity is celebrated, and discrimination has no place.
Your well-being and dignity are our top priorities. We’re here to provide assistance and care, without judgment.
Join us in celebrating Pride for All!
